In the realm of game development, my project “Gas Pump Escape” stands as a testament to both learning and innovation. Originating as a basic prototype, the game emerged as a captivating 2D side-scrolling platformer with an engaging twist of shooter mechanics. Enrolled in a game development course, I embarked on the journey of expanding this prototype into a comprehensive experience.
Throughout the development process, I honed my skills by embedding sound cues, introducing health pickups, crafting an intricate gas timer system, and even learning to work with custom 2D lights. This latter addition not only elevated the game’s visual appeal but also deepened the atmosphere and gameplay dynamics. Each step represented not just a technical implementation, but an avenue for creative expression. By marrying my coursework with my own creative visions, “Gas Pump Escape” exemplifies my growth as a game developer and my ability to transform a simple concept into an immersive gaming adventure that involves both innovation and skillful execution.
During the development of my portfolio piece, I embarked on creating a prototype akin to the renowned game “Plants vs. Zombies.” This project was a pivotal part of a comprehensive course where I delved into the intricacies of game design and development. The primary objective was to grasp key concepts, and I focused on honing my skills in various areas such as user interface design, implementing timers, and crafting a functional currency system. These elements collectively laid the foundation for an engaging gameplay experience.
In the process, I also delved into the captivating world of 2D animation. I learned how to breathe life into characters and assets by mastering animation techniques. This hands-on experience not only deepened my understanding of animation principles but also contributed to making the game world vibrant and visually appealing. Through this project, I not only gained insights into the mechanics behind tower defense games but also honed essential skills that will undoubtedly shape my future ventures in the realm of game development.
